Native Embeds
Since version 2.9, WordPress has featured native easy embeds. However this plugin offers more customization than allowed without the plugin (player colors, etc.). It will work fine side by side with the new code and you can opt to use either embed method.
The plan for this plugin is to recode it from scratch to instead build upon the new embed API and allow for more customization. The new plugin will be backwards compatible and keep your current videos working.
Description:
Tired of copying and pasting the embed HTML from sites like YouTube? Then this plugin is for you.
Just simply click one of the new buttons that this plugin adds to the write screen (rich editor included) and then paste the URL that the video is located at into the prompt box — easy as that. You can fully configure how the videos are displayed (width, height, colors, alignment on the page) and much more. Your site will even stay (X)HTML valid unlike with the code provided by most video sites.
Currently supports these video sites:
- YouTube (including playlists)
- Google Video
- DailyMotion
- Vimeo
- Veoh
- Viddler
- Metacafe
- Blip.tv
- Flickr videos
- Spike.com/IFILM
- MySpaceTV
As well as these file types:
- Flash Video Files (FLV) — some manual installation required, see this post for details
- QuickTime (MOV, etc.)
- Generic video files (AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc.)
You can also use the [flash] shortcode to Flash-based video from any website (see Help section after installing for details).

Problem solved… No idea what it was?!
I downgraded to 6.1.8 – same crap.
So I decided to use the build-in plugin-update of wordpress, that work fine!
Think it was a bug at my ftp-programm?! I use filezilla, but didn’t change settings for the upload… Weird.
Your upload of the plugin file probably didn’t complete or something.

Hello Viper and fellow VVQT users,
I’ve come across a strange problem lately:
All the content of a post, i.e. a Youtube video and the — admittedly very long — related text (which is the translated transcription, in blockquote, of the words spoken in the video, plus a bunch of footnotes), is not displayed with VVQT activated.
http://arapao.com/2008/11/08/le-discours-de-victoire-d’obama-en-version-francaise/
When I try and cut the text to a few paragraphs, the content is displayed normally, but beyond 10 or 12 paragraphs, the content is invisible to the site’s visitors (only the title, the metadata and the comments are displayed).
Other posts on the same site, containing a video and text shorter than the one described above, are displayed normally.
The site runs WP 2.6.5 now, and the problem did not occur in WP 2.6.2 with this post (otherwise, there would not have been 2 comments left in appreciation of the quality of the translation and notes, I presume).
A similarly long post, but containing no video, is displayed normally: http://arapao.com/2008/10/21/le-discours-d’obama-au-waldorf-astoria-en-version-francaise/
Thanks in advance for any suggestion toward correcting this annoying bug.

Just one thing: why have you chosen the “click here” link solution for the feed and not the video itself? I think in this way many readers just won’t click and skip on. I would: having hundreds of feed to read I can’t “waste” time for a video which I don’t know what is about. At least a better solution could be a linkable screenshot of the video. But the perfect one would be letting the author itself to opt between full video/screenshot/link, don’t you think?
Domiziano Galia on December 16th, 2008 at 2:43 AM wrote:
Because you can’t have videos in feeds. It will break the feed’s validation, plus it won’t work in some feed readers anyway.
Replacing YouTube and generic FLV videos with their preview images instead of text links is a planned feature though.
You sure? W3C Feed validator validates a feed with a straight copy & paste youtube video (link). Google Reader and Bloglines correctly work out the feed with the video.
I know that makes the site not XHTML valid and maybe some feed reader can’t read the feed but I was wondering – it’s a general thought, not strictly related to your plugin – if it pays having a 99% compliant site with issues to work around than say 70% that works out of the box.
I’ve worked on AA+ accessible site and it was an HUGE work. Then 99.9% users (of the very few ones) browse it normally and don’t give a f*ck about accessibility. But it was an institutional one so it has to be done. I’m not telling now to mess up like a myspace page. I love clean code (made conditional css down to explorer 5.5 and then stopped just because 5.01 crashed on startup), but I doubt that ever gave me one more reader. And at the end of the day who cares about validation? Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, YouTube, none of them is valid.
So what’s the payout? Being Lynx and Vanuatu Feed Reader valid, while standard users get bored?
(Apologies for my outburst btw
Domiziano Galia on December 16th, 2008 at 7:15 AM wrote:
Direct from that link:
“line 26, column 0: content:encoded should not contain object tag”
It does not validate. I also did not say it doesn’t work in all feed readers, I said it doesn’t work in some.
It’s also not a simple change either because my plugin embeds videos into your blog via Javascript (SWFObject), something you can’t do in feeds. I would have to code up a huge chunk of code in order for it to happen and that code would be breaking validation with it’s very nature.
Simply put, it isn’t gonna happen. Sorry.
Thankyou for this plugin anything that saves me time is well worth its salt…

Excellent plugin. Simple yet customizable and does exactly what it should. Good work.
One minor thing. When I manually save a post I am editing, the buttons disappear from the quick tag bar. Leaving the editor and re-editing the post will not make them reappear, but creating a new post will. Very strange. Not really a huge deal since I usually just type the tags anyway, but worth mentioning. I am using Firefox 3.1b (but it did it with the stable 3.0.5 version) and WordPress 2.7. For some reason it does not do this in Camino 2b1, which is weird since it is also a Mozilla based browser. It does not do it in Safari either.
Hmmm. Weird.

Hi Friends,
I have been breaking my head to get the video plugin for wordpress site i am working on. I even tried this plugin.. Unfortunately it doesn’t work for me..
My Requirements is this.
I need a plugin, using which i can upload any video file like wmv,mp4,flv from local computer or from url and can post it on my blog.. That page should have preview of that uploaded video (not a static image for all videos..Thats is not acceptable). when I click on that it should start playing.. Or auto-play for uploaded video contents is also fine..
I have tried as much as I can.. Finally I decided to give up and ask you believing that, my problem would get resolved even faster with you help.
Hope you will help me..
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Srimathi.

Hi Viper007Bond – I can understand you viewpoint but would like you to reconsider as there are about 600000 results for “ted.com” on Google so that might not be such a fringe site and if we look for quality over quantity then the videos on TED far outnumber those on YouTube
TED gives you bleeding edge development, just go browse for yourself a bit and I think you agree that it needs to be made easier to share those videos

* David Merrill Demos Siftables the Smart Blocks
* Capt Charles Moore on the Seas of Plastic

Hi there!
I’m using your great plugin on my blog and discovered over the weekend, that all videos from youtube on my blog stopped working without having changed any settings. The player is displayed as usual, but when clicking on play I get the message “We’re sorry, this video is no longer available”. When I add the videos using the normal youtube-code from their site, everything’s fine.
Could it be that youtube changed something over the last few days that breaks the code generated by your plugin? It would be great, if you can fix that problem. You can use this post as an example: http://blog.freeqnet.de/2009/02/24/klassiker-rezension-can-ege-bamyasi/
