Yes, WordPress 2.9 and WordPress 3.0 feature native easy embeds. However this plugin offers more customization than allowed without the plugin (player colors, etc.). It will work fine side by side with the new code and you can opt to use either embed method.
The plan for this plugin is to recode it from scratch to instead build upon the new embed API and allow for more customization. The new plugin will be backwards compatible and keep your current videos working.

there is something wrong in your description above of embedding a flash video and also in the help section of the plugin.
Instead of using [flash]…[/flash] you have to use [flv]…[/flv].
The [flash] tag is for directly embedding SWF files. The [flv] tag inserts a player that will play the passed video file (FLV/MP4/etc.). I should probably be more clear.

I have just installed this plugin on my wordpress site. When I go to import the video content on a post or page the buttons for importing video do not sure up. Is the plugin broken? Could it be interfering with other pluginsI have on the site? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

But when inserting my own video (.avi video with my url) and playing it with Windows Media Player, it is always automatically starts, even if the option Start automatically is disabled. What can I do ?

You can convert the video to FLV and then use embed it that way. Or upload it to YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
Simply put, embedding actual video files and getting them to work with all browsers and operating systems is really hard and will never work 100% correctly for everyone.

As for LiveLeak, it looks like their URLs share a common video ID with their embed HTML, so it should be possible. I’ll consider it.

A few questions I have for you
1) Is it possible to have a “Dim Lights” feature. As in, you click the Dim Lights button and your entire site will get darker, except for the Video embed.
2) So there are 2 sizes where people can watch videos. One size is the normal size that is embedded in the post, the other size is to FullScreen the video. Is it possible to have a “middle” size, as in, the video sort of pops-out in a medium size on your website ?

Hey Viper, I have a question for you regarding the Veoh player.
If you arn’t aware, there are 2 things that Veoh do to their videos.
1) They block certain countries from viewing their videos.
2) Any video that is longer than xx minutes, they will show only a 5 minute clip of the video and force you to download their webplayer to watch the full video.
(I say xx because I’m not sure exactly how many min)
I’ve been looking at other websites, and I’ve noticed a couple of websites that have bypassed both these problems, and to top it off, they play the video on their own player (like FLV videos)

I’ve tested with some of my visitors. They tell me they get “Video Unavailable” message in the “My Veoh Tabs” but in the Custom tabs they can view video fine. And you should probably be able to see the 5 minute preview problem for yourself. You can check the source code, its the same veoh video ID for all of them.

An excellent plugin!
I figured it out, seems the plugin isn’t using version 5.0+ of the flash player(is this correct and if so is there a chance an upgrade will be coming?), which just means I needed to us agegate-1. For those interested all you need to do is add the “plugins=agegate-1″
Correct. This plugin uses 4.x and the next major release of my plugin won’t use this player at all as it isn’t free for commercial use.
Duh, well then anyway to implement Age Gate usage? I’m rather baffled why Youtube doesn’t have Age Gate support. Though from various message boards, Age Gate wordpress video is something lots of people are looking for.

Ok. I just read the article above and it says “The new plugin will be backwards compatible and keep your current videos working.” This appears to answer my question.
Yes, all FLV embeds will continue working. The only thing that will probably break are any advanced flashvar parameters (which 99% of users don’t touch).

Been using your quicktags plugin for a while now, but I noticed that it doesn’t work on my shiny new iPad. I assume that’s because you use Flash to embed the video. Actually, there is a space for the video and if I click on that space the YouTube app opens and plays the video, so all is not lost. But it would be nice to have the video directly in the blog post where it’s supposed to be. Do you know if there is, or will be, a way to embed the videos without using Flash?

That plugin conflicts with vipers-video-quicktags, but in case you were wondering, I disabled viper’s plugin and installed this one. Then I added a YouTube video to one of my posts (by simply pasting the URL for the YouTube video). Works perfectly (it’s embedded in the post) on my iPad.
I’m currently rewriting this plugin from scratch. I took a look at the source of that plugin and besides it giving me a headache due to poor coding, I can’t figure out how it manages to make YouTube videos play without Flash.

In one of your post in wordpress.org you have mentioned that it does generate a thumbnail when a video is posted. How do I display those thumbnails?

My plugin doesn’t generate a thumbnail, but for YouTube it does use the thumbnail generated by YouTube itself as the fallback for if Flash or Javascript is disabled.
