Native Embeds
Since version 2.9, WordPress has featured native easy embeds. However this plugin offers more customization than allowed without the plugin (player colors, etc.). It will work fine side by side with the new code and you can opt to use either embed method.
The plan for this plugin is to recode it from scratch to instead build upon the new embed API and allow for more customization. The new plugin will be backwards compatible and keep your current videos working.

Just simply click one of the new buttons that this plugin adds to the write screen (rich editor included) and then paste the URL that the video is located at into the prompt box — easy as that. You can fully configure how the videos are displayed (width, height, colors, alignment on the page) and much more. Your site will even stay (X)HTML valid unlike with the code provided by most video sites.

You can also use the [flash] shortcode to Flash-based video from any website (see Help section after installing for details).

Unfortunately after today upgrade I have an issue – only link appear instead the player even I updated adobe shockwave and flash player. Before upgrade all was fine. So, can you give a link to previous version of the excellent viper quicktags?

Hi, I’m still trying to get videos to display at 100% of their containing div so that I can have small videos in the sidebar and bigger videos in the post body, both on the homepage. Someone previously said they’d achieved this with php, and I’ve contacted them but have not heard back – CAN ANYONE HELP!?

Hi, I’ve just installed the latest plugin on my WPMU and it works well. Thank you for developing!
However, when I insert a video into my post and choose media type, I have an trouble with expression of text.
If I push a media-type-button and repeat canceling and choosing another video type, the text like “Embed A Video from xxx” remains being old one.
Is it a bug? Do you know why did this problem happen?

I just updated to the newest version (6.2.13) and preview images have stopped working on self-hosted FLV files.
They were working previously, but after the upgrade, none of my embedded FLV files are showing the preview image. I didn’t set it in the shortcode, but just let it use the default setting of the same filename as the video but with a .jpg extension. Has this default gone away in this version?

I have only one question. Do you plan to create universal tag for all these video services ? User just put [video]video.url[/video] and on the specific url (everyone service have own server) this create embed code with a specific configration. I think it should be more intuitive and easier.

This plugin is basically becoming deprecated with WordPress 2.9 (however it will continue to work just fine).

I’m not sure if it’s a pro vs. free thing. The embed code that Flickr gives you contains a per-video “key”, but my plugin can’t determine that key without connecting to Flickr to get it.
For other videos, Flickr doesn’t care that it’s missing from my plugin’s embed code it makes, but your video it does. Perhaps you need to adjust the video’s permissions. Or perhaps it really is a pro vs. free thing (i.e. free account embeds won’t work without the secret key). I’m not sure.

I have the same problem with one of my flickr videos. I checked the source code generated by your plugin and it looks for this file:

But when I go to the video embed thing on flickr it has this address in the code

Probably something wrong in your plugin? or maybe flickr changed something in their api? Anyway, I have a pro account if that helps.
(if I go directly on the two above urls I get a “no longer available” message on both videos so the problem can come from something else… hopefully not this secret code thing)
1.161 is what they used to have in their embed code. Usually such a parameter is just to break browser cache though and the same SWF file is served regardless of the parameter.

Is possible to use a different flash player like NonverBlaster (which has no commercial licensing requirements)?
Recoding this plugin to make use of the new embed API included in WordPress 2.9 is on my todo list. When I do it, I’ll be switching out the flash player to a GPL-compatible one.
Will the plugin have a quicktag like [mp3]? Is possible to embed an mp3 with the [flv] tag and the flash player, but one may want that they have different settings for it at the configuration page.

Probably not. It requires buying a new license (for commercial sites) and I’ll soon be recoding the plugin for WordPress 2.9 at which time I’ll be ditching JW Player altogether in favor of a GPL compatible player.

I was hoping to use viper video quicktags to pull in a custom field on pages for youtube videos by using the “do_shortcode” function in WordPress.
It seems to only create a thumbnail image with a link directly to YouTube instead of embedding the video.

The SWFObject call is added by a

Will you still supporting it for the people who use your plugin and have a commercial licence for the JW player?
Maybe you can have an option for people using different flash players to play FLV/MP4 files including the JW player upon installation of the plugin or a parameter in the admin section?

Correct. Just page in the WordPress.com-style shortcode, available from the upload screen or the embed dropdown.

I’d like to make a feature request: could you provide support for videos from Tangle? It was formerly called Godtube and was primarily used for “family-friendly” purposes. Alexa lists them as #3325 in the US.

Ok this is a bit particular: If I am hosting flv files on my server, is it possible to use your plugin with relative urls? The image=”can-be-relative.jpg” but the movie file itself, I can’t work out the correct relative path. Is this even possible?
I ask because I am working on a project that wil eventually need to work on a DVD and absolute file paths to a remote server won’t work out so well…

My beef is simply that from a strategic standpoint, video is probably paramount to most multi-blog environments. Rather than remove embeds for security reasons, there should have been a built in alternate to what WP offers.

Only certain HTML tags are allowed in WPMU. This is for security reasons — i.e. I could embed a “video” from my malicious site and log IPs of people who visit my blog or whatever.

I only see the embed videos in my single.php page, and I want them as well in the main page.
Right now my main page only displays the code:

But if you click on the post, then it shows the video.

Sounds like your theme is using the_excerpt() or something other than the_content() on it’s index.php.
