h1“Prey” Demo Released!

Posted on Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 at 8:24 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

The “Prey” demo (official site) was released last night or sometime around then. I just finished beating it and I must say, it’s pretty kickass and trippy. To get an idea of what I mean by trippy, check out this quick shitty-YouTube-quality video I made from the demo:

And it gets even more crazy (I won’t spoil it though).

If this looks interesting to you, go grab the demo now!

h1So I Got To See That Pixar “Cars” Movie

Posted on Sunday, June 4th, 2006 at 4:46 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Cars Move Poster

Yesterday (Saturday) morning, I got to go see a pre-release of Pixar’s latest movie, “Cars” (official site). My mom got some free tickets from a local radio station and had a spare ticket, so she invited me along.

After seeing the previews and commercials for it, I figured it’d be funny (like most Pixar movies are), but I also figured that it’d be a movie for like 7-12 year old boys, i.e. a kid’s movie. While it is in some respects, it definetly isn’t goofy or retarded. It’s not my favorite Pixar movie, but there’s a definite plot to it and I didn’t get bored at all during the movie.

The visuals were quite stunning, the best to date of Pixar’s films from what I can tell. Makes sense too as it’s the newest. They also pulled off the racing scenes and such really well. I’m guessing it’s pretty hard to show speed and such with CGI, but it turned out good.

Anyway, I give it 9 outta 10 stars. :)

Oh, and on a final note, if you go to see it, make sure you stay for the ENTIRE credits. Like all Pixar movies, there’s always fun stuff mixed in with the credits as well as something after the credits. ;)

h1A Look At Battlefield 2142

Edit @ 4:20PM: Haha, I just realized that outta habit and lack of sleep, I typed “1942″ rather than “2142″. Whoops!

The guys over at BF2S.com managed to check out Battlefield 2142 recently at E3.

Their opinions of the game as well as a great video and some screenshots can be found on right here. If you’re into first person shooter games, I highly recommend you read it! :)

h1Half-Life 2: Episode One Is Now Pre-Loading!

Posted on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 at 2:39 AM (2 years, 3 months ago)

Starting today, you can pre-load the PC game “Half-Life 2: Episode One“. Episode One picks up where Half-Life 2 left off and has you venture to the outside of City 17.

Now, the game doesn’t come out until June 1st, but if you pre-load it before hand, you’ll have the game ready to go to be unlocked for when it’s released. Then you can play it moments after it’s released. Not to mention that if you purchase it before it’s released, you’ll save 20% off the purchase price which is $19.95 if you buy it by itself (other packages that contain other Valve titles as well are available), which is a pretty good deal if you ask me. I’m already pre-loading it and I’ll be pre-ordering it in the next couple days. :)

Hooooly crap, the new Tool CD is f’ing awesome! Only a couple songs in currently, but I totally love what I hear. If you’re a Tool or rock fan, you’ll definetly want to get this album.

h1Half-Life 2: Episode One Website Goes Live

Posted on Friday, April 7th, 2006 at 5:44 PM (2 years, 4 months ago)

The website for Half-Life 2: Episode One went live today. HL2:EP1 picks up where Half-Life 2 left off (reactor explosion going off and Gordon and Alyx being taken away or whatever by the G-Man).

Consciousness returns. Gordon and Alyx discover they’ve somehow escaped both the reactor explosion and the G-Man’s malevolent grasp. Before they can ponder their miraculous survival, the crippled Citadel lurches back to life just long enough to initiate a self-destruct sequence. With Alyx at his side, Gordon must flee a city in chaos before the Citadel’s final detonation turns City 17 into a toxic, mutant-infested crater.

I’m soooo pre-ordering this as soon as I can. :D

h1Battlefield 2142

Posted on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006 at 4:53 PM (2 years, 5 months ago)

About a month and a half ago, this video was leaked onto the Internet:

It was claimed to be the next Battlefield title from DICE, but most people, including me, figured it to be a non-BF title. Oh how we were wrong, as shown by this video released yesterday:

EA also posted a community update today confirming the project.

While I really enjoy modern combat (i.e. Battlefield 2), Battlefield 2142 definetly looks interesting and like a lot of fun. :)

h12% of Gamers are Hermaphrodite

Posted on Monday, January 23rd, 2006 at 3:15 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Haha, this is great:

It’s official: two per cent of gamers are neither male nor female, leading us to believe that this small yet significant section of the gaming demographic is either hermaphrodite, represents a species further down the evolutionary pyramid or is perhaps of silicon-based extraterrestrial origin.

That’s according to the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) 2005 report into the state of the industry - enticingly entitled “ESA’S 2005 Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry” - which is available right here (PDF):

Those esa stats in full

That’s right - page five blows the lid on the astounding truth. We look forward to more ESA revelations in the future, including the earth-shattering insight that 37 per cent of analysts cannot operate an electronic calculator, 41 per cent cannot successfully proofread a document and the remaining 24 per cent are concealing the chilling truth that the lower mammalian orders have developed a penchant for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Fascinating stuff.

Bootnote

Thanks to reader Matt for giving it 110 per cent in finding this statistical gem.

h1Goldeneye Source Alpha

Posted on Monday, December 26th, 2005 at 10:14 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

Woo, an alpha of Goldeneye Source, a Half-Life 2 mod, has been released! I’m downloading it now and can’t wait. I played a Goldeneye mod for the first Half-Life and it was fun and I’m told this one is as well.

h1Movie Reviews

Posted on Monday, December 12th, 2005 at 5:33 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

Thought I’d sum up some of the movies that I remember seeing lately:

  • The Aristocrats: the funniest movie I’ve ever seen. Sure, it’s not a real movie, rather a documentary of sorts, but still, I laughed my ass off so hard when I watched this movie. If you don’t mind bad language and that kinda stuff, go see this movie right now!
  • The Island: very kickass movie totally worth seeing. It’s like a realistic and feasable version of the first Matrix movie.
  • Lord of War: not the movie I expected. I thought it was going to an action flick, but it was more a movie on life as a gun dealer. Still a good movie though.
  • Aeon Flux: worth seeing once, but not any more than that. It was kinda boring and they almost tried too hard for it to be futuristic and stuff. Still, getting to watch Charlize Theron is reason enough to see this movie. :D
  • Four Brothers: awesome movie. Lots of action and some good acting, especially from people you wouldn’t expect it from. Go see it.
  • Serenity: big thumbs up, especially for sci-fi fans. I never saw the TV series (there was a TV series, right?), but I may have to after seeing this movie.
  • Revolver: I had never heard of this movie before seeing it as it’s from the UK, although it’s a Guy Ritchie movie, so that should be enough right there. Sadly, it’s not really. An interesting flick, but it’s confusing as hell and doesn’t even make sense, or at least it didn’t fully for me. Maybe this is one of those movies that you need to watch high…
  • Doom: save your money. It’s decent for an action flick and there’s a twist at the end, but the plot, if you could call it that, blew and the first person view that they did for a short while was retarded.
  • The Dukes of Hazzard: avoid this movie at all costs. There were only two good things in this movie and it was Jessica Simpson’s T&A (but definetly not her acting) and the driving skills of the stuntmen. The “plot” sucked, the acting sucked, etc. Oh, and did I mention the plot sucked? Horrid movie.
