h1Code Display

Posted on Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 at 1:50 AM (2 years, 10 months ago)

Ever wanted to display some code on your blog only to find that the HTML inbetween the or

tags got rendered instead of actually displaying it? Then you had to go manually replace any < or > characters with < and >. What a pain.

So, in comes this plugin. It automatically applies PHP’s htmlspecialchars() to the code contents for display. It also fixes a bug of sorts where WordPress will apply paragraph codes inside of code tags when you have two line breaks.

Here it is in action (in a

though) and note that I typed it into the “Write Page” exactly as it appears:

h1“The Butterfly Effect”

Posted on Saturday, August 13th, 2005 at 1:14 AM (2 years, 10 months ago)

The Butterfly Effect

Just finished watching this movie a few hours ago and I must say, I’m quite impressed. It was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. I mean comon, Ashton Kutcher acting well in a serious drama? Who woulda ever guessed?

Anyway, The Butterfly Effect is about a boy who has backouts as a kid where he can’t remember the usually scary things that happened while he was out. Later, when he’s in college, he discovers that he can start to remember the periods when he had blackouts and actually travel back in time to change what went on then.

However, as chaos theory states (kinda), a small change can result in a much larger change which is the case here. Each time he attempts to fix something that went wrong in his past, his entire life and everyone in it is completely changed.

If you haven’t seen it, this is another movie that you should definetly see.

h1“Dark City”

Dark City

When I saw this sci-fi thriller a few nights ago, I had never even heard of it. However, after watching it, I’m sure glad that I took the time to.

Here’s a non-spoiling plot summary from IMDb since I’m too lazy to write my own:

John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now Murdoch must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him.

The plot is perhaps a tiny bit thin in places, but the idea of the movie and more importantly, the visual style of the movie, is awesome. It sorta reminds me of the Sin City style — very dark and artistic.

If you haven’t seen it (it’s old, it came out in 1998, so I imagine some of you have), you really should. Definetly worth your time, especially if you’re into sci-fi.

h1Peter Jennings Died!

Man, I can’t believe it, Peter Jennings died today. :( It seemed like he was doing fine, but just taking a break to fight his lung cancer. I had no idea how sick he really was. He was such a great reporter.
