h1iMeat

Posted on Thursday, December 29th, 2005 at 5:30 PM (3 years ago)

I know what I want for Christmas next year!

A 14-year-old girl who received a new Apple iPod opened the sealed box and found raw mystery meat inside, according to a Local 6 News report.

Rachel Cambra purchased a new high-tech iPod for her daughter as a gift this week.

When she opened the sealed box, the device was missing and in its place was a piece of raw meat, the report said.

Cambra said the box was sealed and that it didn’t appear to have been tampered with when she brought it home from the Honolulu Wal-Mart where she works.

An investigation found that a former employee apparently tampered with a shipment of iPods and put the meat into several packages.

The former employee now faces tampering charges, Local 6 News reported.

The Wal-Mart where the device was purchased from promised to give the family a new iPod from the next shipment the store receives.

h1Goldeneye Source Alpha

Woo, an alpha of Goldeneye Source, a Half-Life 2 mod, has been released! I’m downloading it now and can’t wait. I played a Goldeneye mod for the first Half-Life and it was fun and I’m told this one is as well.

h1WordPress 2.0 Final Released

Posted on Monday, December 26th, 2005 at 4:33 PM (3 years ago)

Yep, WordPress 2.0 is finally out, although in my opinion, there’s still a few bugs (nothing really critical) they shoulda fixed before doing so. Oh, well, there’s always the next version…

Anyway, you can go snag the new version at WordPress’ official site: http://wordpress.org/

h1Site Feeds Working Again

Posted on Thursday, December 22nd, 2005 at 7:14 PM (3 years ago)

If anyone out there besides bots actually use the feeds of this site, they’ve been fixed. They were broken, probably from when I upgraded to one of the WordPress 2.0 betas. Sorry ’bout that.

h1WordPress 2.0 - A Late Christmas Present

Posted on Wednesday, December 21st, 2005 at 9:54 PM (3 years ago)

Just a head’s up that the release of WordPress 2.0 has been pushed back a few days:

Matt Mullenweg wrote:

Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the phase of the moon.

Core support people have requested a delay until after Christmas in order to prepare upgrade documentation and enjoy the holidays a bit before the release.

This, combined with the fact I haven’t got the changes to wordpress.org ready, is pretty compelling, so the release is currently planned for the 26th of December.

Much better to push it back a little in my opinion rather than push it out before it’s done. :)

h1WordPress v2.0 Final This Wednesday or Thursday!

Posted on Tuesday, December 20th, 2005 at 1:08 AM (3 years ago)

Update: I just realized that the WordPress.org Development Blog has been updated with a link to the 2.0 Release Candidate. If you try it out, make sure to backup your database and files first!

This morning, well yesterday morning now, Matt (one of the lead developers of WordPress) posted the following on the wordpress-hackers mailing list:

Subject: [wp-hackers] 2.0 Release

Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the phase of the moon.

Now would be a great time to start making sure your themes and plugins work with the new version, and post to hackers if you need any help updating them.

As I talked about earlier, WordPress v2.0 will have tons of new kickass features, both in the admin area and especially behind the scenes. If you’re interested in a more detailed list of what’s new, check out this blog post by Owen Winkler.

As for what’s gonna work and what’s not plugin and theme wise, he’s also written this post on that matter. Don’t fret though, all of my plugins work with WordPress v2.0, minus Short URLs, but who cares about that retarded plugin anyway?

Oh, and to those using WP-Dash, make sure to disable the “Recent Posts” widget BEFORE upgrading! Due to the major changes in how user permissions work (user roles have replaced user levels), this widget is broken and will spit major errors at you if you have it enabled. I’m told a new version will be released once WP 2.0 is released, but meanwhile, don’t foorget to close that widget. ;)

h1Woo, I Submitted My First WordPress Bug Fix!!

With lots of help from this wonderful guide by Owen, I’ve submitted my very first bug fix to the WordPress Trac. I just thought I’d share this with you since I’m so proud of myself. :D

h1OMFG SNOW!!!

Posted on Sunday, December 18th, 2005 at 5:29 PM (3 years ago)

Holy crap, it snowed today! And over an inch’s worth!

Now of course that may sound like nothing, but consider that I’m about 220 feet above sea level (way low) and not very far north of the 45th parallel (i.e. I’m not in Canada or something like that). Also consider that the last time we had snow that stuck was many, many years ago. Then you’ll realize how rare this is. :D

h1Hosting Company Wants to Adopt Kid

Posted on Friday, December 16th, 2005 at 3:46 AM (3 years ago)

What the hell…

A web hosting outfit wants to legally adopt a child under the name of the company.

Weblinkhosting.com says that it wants the child to live at the web hosting data centre where he will be provided with food, clothing, shelter and love from the owner and employees.

The plan gets scarier when you read the company’s press release about the plan. “He (sic) can learn all there is to learn about his new mother, web hosting. Perhaps even work for the company in the later years and become a Linux guru,” the press release says.

Apparently the company has been working on the legal adoption process for six months. The deal being hatched out will involve the kid being “the logo and slogan” of the company when he has become old enough. Has the world gone mad? [Yes. Ed]

You can read the press release here. µ
