“Flurry” for Windows

Flurry Screensaver

I had seen this cool screensaver for Mac OS X before, but never knew the name of it, that is until today — “Flurry”. So, I Googled and found the screensaver’s official site as well as a Windows port of it. As a result, I now have a new favorite screensaver. :D

If you’ve never seen Flurry in action, you should really download it. Click here if you’re using Windows or here if you’re using OS X 10.1 or better. You won’t regret it. :)

“Transporter 2″

Transporter 2 Poster

After seeing “The Transporter”, I wasn’t expecting much from “Transporter 2″. I mean sure, the first one was a kick to watch, but the plot was seriously lacking, to say the least. But hey, I don’t think anyone goes to these kinda movies expecting to see top notch acting and an excellent plot. These types of movies are designed to be full of action and keep you on the edge of your seat and this movie delivers.

Once again, mercenary/driver/martial arts expert/superhero/etc. Frank Martin (played by Jason Statham) is thrown into a highly unlikely scenario where he has to rescue some innocent person. This time around, a little boy, the son of a major anti-drug bureaucrat, that Frank has been hired to drive to and from school (no, he doesn’t drive a school bus) gets kidnapped. Frank of course promises to rescue him.

True to the previous Transporter film, “Transporter 2″ features tons of beautiful women, fast cars, explosions, and exotic locations. However, the bullshit meter is off the charts this time as Frank does repeated impossible stunts. I won’t “spoil” them by saying what they are, but they are definitely way out there.

Overall, it was a good action flick and did exactly as promised — to provide lots of action. It didn’t try to be something it wasn’t and because of that, I’m giving it a thumbs up. You for sure won’t come out of the theater having seen a great movie, but you will be satisfied, assuming you didn’t go in expecting to see Oscar material that is. ;)

So basically, if you like action flicks, go see it, or even better, wait for it to come out on DVD and rent it, otherwise avoid it ’cause that’s all it has going for it really — action and babes.

Code Display v2.01

Sorry for yet another release, but I found a bug. The plugin was operating on the feeds and that was making them invalid code. I think it’s now fixed (I disabled the plugin if a feed was the current page). Let me know if you encounter any other problems or if you find that I really didn’t manage to fix the problem. :)

Bush Is A Disaster

Found this picture of some British news on the web:

Bush: One of the worst disasters to hit the U.S.

Isn’t that great? Bush was actually saying that Katrina was one of the worst disasters to hit the U.S., but it looks like the news was saying that Bush was one of the worst disasters to hit the U.S. which is well, debatably true. :P

Short URLs v1.01

Bah, I discovered a stupid bug in the original version of my plugin where it was possible to get into an infinite redirection loop if the post didn’t have a permalink. This is now fixed. Sorry about that.

You can grab the new version right here.

Katrina Google Satellite Views

Yes, I’m a bit behind the times, but they’re still interesting, so I’m gonna share. :P

Anyway, on Google Maps is this satellite imagery of New Orleans from Wednesday, August 31st at 10 AM.

If you have Google Earth (which you should — it’s free and awesome), then check out this page which has a bunch of downloads for Google Earth that adds image overlays of the damage, new satellite views, etc. to the program. VERY insertesting stuff.

Here are some examples:

Code Display v2.0

Just a head’s up that I’ve released a new version of Code Display. It’s a complete revamp with like not 1 line of code from the old version.

This new one is just basically an improved version of a plugin by Scott Reilly. There’s just some tweaks to his code to make it work better in my opinion. I’ve also made it so that commenters can use non-allowed HTML tags within their tags in comments. This is done by cloning the default comment processor (wp-comments-post.php) and replacing it with a slightly modified version that processes contents before it's stripped and inserted into the database.

More details here where any comments should also go.

Oregon State: 41, Portland State: 14

Woo, go Beavs! :D

Over the weekend, I went down to Corvallis to watch OSU play PSU in the newly renovated Reser Stadium. This was the first game played with the new East addition being completed.

On game day, that was completely full as was the other side that the above camera is mounted on. In total, there were over 42,000 people there. Every seat was sold out. It was a heck of a lot of people in orange. Some pictures from game day soon perhaps. :)

Hurricane Katrina

To be frank, this whole ordeal is a world away from me (doesn’t affect me in my day to day life) and I kinda feel the same about it as I did 9/11 — that it just seems like a movie or whatever.

Anyway, the point of this post is I thought I’d share some interesting links. The first is a blog run by a system admin. It used to be his personal and such blog, but now it’s turned into a blog about the whole ordeal. He’s in downtown New Orleans with a diesel generator powering his building, webcam, etc. You can find it here: http://mgno.com/ (see also: http://www.nola-intel.org/)

The other interesting link is an audio stream of a scanner down there. Interesting to hear all of the military and such talk. For a list of repeaters, go here: http://wiki.nola-intel.org/index.php/Radio_Info

And on a closing note, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK at the people who are shooting at the police, hospital employees, etc. It’s not their fault you didn’t get your dumb ass out of the city 5 days ago when the evacuation order was given. They are just trying to do their job and save people. New Orleans has turning into a warzone, I swear.

Oh, and Foamy owns you.
